What is total cost of ownership (TCO), and why is it important?

The total cost of ownership (TCO) is all the direct and indirect costs of a project or system over its lifetime. For system developers, when trying to get cost estimates for system downtime and support, an accurate TCO estimate is invaluable.

A group meeting sometimes is suggested as a useful compromise between interviews and questionnaires. In such a group meeting, one systems analyst meets with and asks questions of a number of users at one time. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of such a group meeting.

One of the benefits of having a group meeting is that all the relevant stakeholders are present at the same location at the same time. At the meeting, the systems analyst can “brainstorm” with the group, give and receive feedback, and discuss required processes.

A group meeting has some disadvantages. According to Reference.com, they can include information overload, confusion, and conflicts caused by negative personalities. “Some loud members may use group meetings to force unpopular ideas on the quieter members” (What Are Some Advantages and Disadvantages of Group Meetings?, 2020), causing others to just “play along”, especially if they are reluctant to speak out.
